There is a great demand for Dutch breeding stock that is regarded as very high quality by Pakistani customers. For more than 11 years, the government refused the importation of animals from Europe. Despite its own milk production, the country itself cannot meet the increasing demand for milk products. Last week, VAEX succeeded in sending the first successful shipment of high-quality breeding cattle to Pakistan. VAEX did this in collaboration with Bovitech.
LOADING
Five trucks gathered early in the morning at a collection stable in Zwolle. The drivers prepared the trucks by providing them with plenty of straw. After all documents had been prepared by an NVWA veterinarian, loading could begin.
UNLOADING AT THE AIRPORT
Two VAEX representatives reported to the airport in the afternoon to check the crates in which the animals were going to be transported. The transport company had already prepared the wooden transport crates with sawdust. At 5:00 pm the first truck started unloading the cows. Plenty of time was taken to ensure that the cows did not experience any undue stress.
Unfortunately, the aircraft couldn’t take off at the scheduled time due to a technical defect. Through good collaboration with the transport company and the airline, the right measures could be taken to ensure the animals had their feed and water on time.
THE FLIGHT
After a flight of 7.5 hours, the animals arrived in good condition in Pakistan. Four people, including a VAEX representative, flew along to monitor and care for the animals during the trip. They also gave support during unloading in Pakistan.
The 165 pregnant dairy cows are to be used to ensure that dairy farming in Pakistan will flourish and they will have a good life in a brand new barn for the next 5 to 6 years.
